Fluttershy by thurinus Fluttershy by thurinus
Hey hey hey, stay out of her shed!

My first correctly-coloured Minky pony. Free-standing wings without wires, fuller mane, denser embroidery for a more professional look, and needle-sculpting to gently shape the muzzle and pull the eyes in so they look decent from the front.

Base pattern modified from *valleyviolet

HNNNNG- Oh man, this is the by far the best Fluttershy pattern I've seen yet (and I've seen a lot) ; - ; She's just so chunky and cuddly and *squeak!*
I wish you did commissions... but then even if you did, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to afford your beautiful work... *stares at picture and bites lip until it bleeds* .... GAH! So much want T^T
*does the same again* FAQ. I need to go. :|

'needle-sculpting' ...how do you get the eyes to look right at the front?, i didnt really know what u meant by that aha ^^; i cant remember if ive already said so but this is really good! i love it

Thanks :) Needle sculpting is simply using thread to pull parts of soft toy into more precise shapes than patterns can do alone. A quick Google search for needle sculpting turns up lots of good links and tutorials.

thanks :) I simply sewed in a layer of batting to stiffen it just enough to stand near the root.

can you explain needle sculpting to me maybe? I've never heard of it c:
this plush really did pay off, its amazing.

A Google search should bring up lots of resource regarding needle sculpting. It basically involves using thread to pull together parts of a plush's skin to form features that would otherwise be difficult to achieve with patterns alone.

Oh my goodness.. This is seriously one of the most cutest Fluttershys ever! I love her eyes from the front c: so sweet. And she's sewn so neatly! Do you take commissions? I'd love to have a Fluttershy like this.

It's very VERY good. It reminds me distinctly of one of babylondonstars plushies before she disappeared. And well know how good she was.

Thanks! I don't feel like I can ever be compared to a master like her, though. I only started appreciating MLP after she apparently left dA, so I've never had the privilege of seeing her stuff here :(. Whatever I could find of her work and tutorials elsewhere have made their way into my reference folders however, and have helped tremendously :).

I really want to know what solution you found for the wings. I know you were having problems with them. How'd you get them free standing?

batting-minky-minky-batting all sewn together, and turned inside out through the narrow root opening. Yes, it was hella difficult, but not impossible... to my pleasant surprise.

Yay! Glad it worked. Thanks for the advice. Eventually I'll be doing elves as plushies and knowing what works to make their little ears stand up helps. So batting, and fabric. XD

Patience wins. You're very dilligent or determined. It works with sewing, it's all about the patience and the practice (and the help).

fffffffffffffft. Stay out of her shed.

It's looking really good. Great job with it for being a new plushie maker, or relatively new. I love the way the seams look clean. Very symmetrical.

thanks :) I'm pretty happy with the wings... I thought other artisans were crazy for suggesting sewn-in batting before turning the whole thing inside-out, but it's actually surprisingly doable :)
