Rainbow Dash by thurinus Rainbow Dash by thurinus
Finally done! Spent more time than I would've liked designing her forelock and tail. Redesigned the pegasus wings from Fluttershy and experimented with a discrete piece for her covert feathers. No wires.

Am not sure what to make of the colour used for her body... I've seen reference pictures in varying shades and other artisans using turquoise minky. If it bugs me enough I might be tempted to try one in turquoise, but not anytime soon... I don't want to relive her nightmare of a tail just yet.

Base pony pattern evolved from *valleyviolet's

I love your work, I don't even know how you make the head look so good, mine certainly don't. Heck, everything about these looks good.
It's a pity to see you go ma'am, you're a great artist. Good luck in wherever you're going!

I'm working on a plush right now and if don't mind me asking, how did you get her wings to stay upright?

I just used a double-layer of batting sewn to the wings before turning it inside-out. It's tight, but doable :)

Absolutely spectacular! The extra time spent on her forelock and tail is definitely reflected in the finished piece. You managed to capture her looks and personality!

What pattern did you use for mane and tail? Is valley violets pattern and directions easy to follow? I'm looking into that pattern but, need to find good tips and tricks for doing mane, eyes, tails, and cutie mark. As I don't have an embroidery machine. Beautiful job! She's an adorable plushie. Love her.

thanks :) I drafted my own mane and tail patterns. valleyviolet's instructions are extremely detailed and methodic, and she's quick to respond to specific questions you may have. The best eyes and cutie marks are either embroidered or appliquéd, and while it helps tremendously, you don't need a machine to do either :)

I'm actually looking at valley violet right now. I've heard amazing things about her pattern. I'm now trying to find a mane and tail. I've also found a few also on etsy but, before paying that much in a pattern I wanted to research and see if any plushie makers had a good pattern they recommended using for that.

Nothing's stopping you from drafting your own :) the hair pieces are relatively simple so it wouldn't take too many iterations to settle with something you like.

Thank you :) do you use freezer paper when drafting your pattern pieces for hair?

I actually use paper towels because that's the only cheap pliable material I have around my place besides my cloths. Sometimes I also design straight in Illustrator and do loose fitting using printer paper.
