Twilight Sparkle by thurinus Twilight Sparkle by thurinus
Finally found some time to whip up another pony - Twilight Sparkle! Just in time to make her a Christmas present to myself. :P

Additional minor edit to the base pattern to tighten the face's profile shape - I noticed that the last few minky ponies looked a little chubby due to the knit stretch.

Pattern modified from *valleyviolet's

Your plushies look identical to the 4DE ones. Do you work for them or do you base the style off of them or anything? Regardless, still amazing.

No to both, and "identical" might be too absolute (and wrong) a word to use - try "similar". My stuff evolved from valleyviolet's patterns and observations of other people's work.

This is great work here. I'm also using Valley's pattern.
I have a question if you don't mind me asking; How did you figure out her mane? I'm having a heck of a time with it.

I just started with a base pattern roughed out from paper towels and iterated on the design with fabric, pinning each iteration on the mannequin pony I made some time back to test-fit before sewing them into the seams on the actual pony.

Good gravy, paper towels? :iconrdwtfplz:
Regardless, thanks for the tips. I actually should make a mannequin, considering I don't really have material to spare. Now that I have that, all I need to do is getting over procrastination...

Don't sew the paper towels! I just use them for rough sizing. The real tests should be done with fabric.

Oh yeah yeah, I wouldn't sew paper towels. Bahaha! This guy~ :iconohyoucasplz:
I understood you meant for sizing and shaping. Card paper, well more or less, printer paper is obviously for fabric body scale and shape. So paper towels aren't a huge switch, in fact it's better for the mane to use paper towels considering it shapes better than tougher paper. I was just amazed, I never thought of using it.

Wonderful work! You did a great job on her and she looks adorable! Your changes to the facial portion of the pattern definitely increased show accuracy, the embroidery work on her eyes and cutie mark is lovely, and her overall body proportions look very good. The only criticism I could possibly make is that the horn is a bit short looking, but I'm sure you're already aware of that. Aside from the horn you nailed everything else pretty flawlessly ^_^

Thanks :) Yeah the horn is one of the things I'd fix if another iteration comes around (definitely going to be fixed for Rarity). I had redrafted it to be level with her ears at least, but the needle-sculpting done to bring out the spirals pulled it down noticeably enough.

Very cute!

And yeah Twilight's hair is pretty annoying. Rainbow Dash's mane is actually a little easier I feel since it only has three colors in the bangs and three in the back, her tail on the other hand...

Thanks :) I suppose that's true about RD's mane and forelock... I guess I can't help fixating on the most daunting part of each project. :P
